What happens to the WebVTT-only parts?

The WEBVTT header, cue identifiers, NOTE and STYLE blocks and positioning settings are all dropped, because none of them means anything on a page. Cue text, line breaks and timings survive.

Will non-Latin scripts show up?

Yes. A font covering Chinese, Japanese and Korean is embedded in the PDF, so those subtitles render rather than coming out blank.

I need the captions as a file a player can use.
