Otter.ai Alternative for Transcribing Audio and Video Files

Looking for an Otter.ai alternative? ScribeToAny transcribes uploaded files in ~98 languages with SRT/VTT export and free translation. Plans, limits and prices compared.

Otter.ai is built around meetings: a bot joins Zoom, Google Meet or Teams, writes live notes and summarises the call. If most of what you transcribe is files — interviews, podcasts, lectures, videos, voice memos — that model gets in the way: Otter's free plan allows only three file imports per account, and its paid plans cap imports per month.

ScribeToAny is the other way round. You upload a file, paste a link or record in the browser, and get a timestamped transcript with optional speaker labels that you can edit and export as subtitles or documents.

Prices and limits below were checked on each vendor's pricing page on October 2, 2026. Vendors change plans often — check before you buy.

When ScribeToAny is the better choice

  • You mostly transcribe recordings, not live calls. No import quota: every file counts only against your minutes.
  • Your audio is not in one of Otter's six languages. Korean, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic, Vietnamese, Russian and about 90 more are covered, and the language is detected for you.
  • You need subtitles. SRT and VTT export are on the free plan, and the editor lets you fix a line and replay that exact moment of audio before you export.
  • You want the transcript in another language. Translate a finished transcript into 134+ languages for free; every line keeps its original timing, so a translated SRT still lines up with the video.
  • You transcribe in bursts. Minute packs ($5 for 300 minutes, $10 for 800, $20 for 2,000, valid for a year) cover a busy month without a subscription.

When Otter.ai is the better choice

  • You want a bot to join meetings and take notes live, with summaries and action items.
  • Your team works inside Otter's shared workspace and calendar integrations.
  • Your meetings are long and you are on Otter Business, which allows up to 4 hours per meeting with unlimited imports.

Many teams use both: Otter for live calls, ScribeToAny for the recordings, interviews and videos that arrive as files.

Switching from Otter

  1. Download the meeting recording from Zoom, Meet or Teams (or export the audio from Otter).
  2. Upload it to ScribeToAny — MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV and more work — or paste a public link.
  3. Turn on speaker recognition if several people talk, then edit and export TXT, DOCX, PDF or SRT.

Frequently asked questions

Is ScribeToAny a free Otter.ai alternative?
There is a free plan: 100 minutes a month, 2 files a day, up to 30 minutes per file, no credit card. Otter's free Basic plan gives more minutes (300 a month) but only 3 file imports per account, ever — so for uploaded recordings ScribeToAny's free plan goes further.
Can ScribeToAny join my Zoom or Google Meet calls like Otter?
No. ScribeToAny has no meeting bot. You upload the recording afterwards (MP4, M4A, MOV, WEBM and more) or paste a link. If you need live notes during the call, Otter is the better tool.
Which languages does each tool transcribe?
Otter lists English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Chinese. ScribeToAny transcribes about 98 languages with automatic language detection, and can translate a finished transcript into 134+ languages.
Can I export SRT subtitles?
Yes, on every ScribeToAny plan, including free: TXT, SRT, VTT, TSV, CSV, JSON, PDF and DOCX. On Otter, SRT, PDF and DOCX export start with the Pro plan; the free plan exports TXT and MP3.
