Convert VTT to SRT

WebVTT and SubRip carry the same cues in slightly different wrappers — VTT uses a dot before the milliseconds and adds a header, SRT uses a comma and numbers each cue. This converter rewrites one into the other with the timings untouched. It runs entirely in your browser, so the file never leaves your machine.

Frequently asked questions

Is my subtitle file uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in JavaScript inside your browser tab. Your file is read locally and never sent to a server, which is also why there is no size quota or account to create.

Will the timings shift?

No. Timestamps are parsed to milliseconds and written back out in SRT form, so a cue at 00:01:23.456 becomes 00:01:23,456 exactly. Converting back to VTT returns the original file.

What happens to VTT positioning and styling?

Cue settings such as align:start or position:10%, and STYLE and REGION blocks, are dropped — SRT has no equivalent for them. Cue text, line breaks and timings are all preserved.

I need subtitles for a video that has none. Can this help?

This tool only converts an existing subtitle file. To generate subtitles from the audio itself, upload the video to ScribeToAny — it transcribes about 98 languages and exports SRT, VTT and six other formats.
