Frequently asked questions

Can it convert an MP4 to MP3?

Yes. Load the MP4 and choose MP3 — the tool keeps the audio, drops the video and writes an MP3. Any video container works the same way.

Which output formats are supported?

MP3, WAV, AAC (M4A), FLAC and OGG. MP3 uses a built-in encoder; the others rely on your browser’s audio support, so if one fails, try a Chromium browser or pick WAV, which always works.

Which output format should I choose?

MP3 for the widest compatibility and small files — the safe default for sharing and playback. WAV or FLAC when you need lossless: WAV for editors and transcription that want uncompressed PCM, FLAC when you want lossless but smaller. AAC is a modern, efficient choice for Apple devices, and OGG for open-source tools and games. If you are unsure, MP3 plays on everything.

Which input files can it read?

Common audio — MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, FLAC, OGG/Opus — plus the audio track of video files like MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV, which it pulls out and re-encodes. What matters is whether your browser can decode the source, so a file that plays in the browser will almost always convert. Very old or niche formats that browsers cannot decode are the exception.

Which format is best before transcribing?

MP3 or WAV. Most transcription tools accept MP3 and it keeps the file small for upload; WAV is the safest when a pipeline specifically wants uncompressed audio. Converting a bulky video or an unusual audio format to a plain MP3 first is a common step — it strips out the picture and hands the transcriber the one format it is certain to accept.
