Getting started

  1. Create a free account with Google or your email. The free plan gives you 100 minutes every month, and you don't need a credit card.
  2. Click "Transcribe file" and drop in an audio or video file. You can also paste a link or record from your microphone.
  3. Pick your options — the language (or leave it on Auto-detect), a mode, and any of the extra settings described below.
  4. Open the transcript once its status shows Done. Read it, fix it, export it or translate it.

What you can transcribe

  • Files: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, WMA, MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WMV, MPEG and WebM.
  • Links: X, Twitch, Loom, Google Drive and Dropbox. YouTube, TikTok and Instagram block downloads, so save the video first and upload the file.
  • Recordings: record straight from your microphone in the browser.

The free plan takes files up to 30 minutes, two files a day, one at a time. Plus and Pro take files up to 6 hours (5 GB), up to six at once. See Pricing.

Transcription options

  • Language: about 98 languages. Leave it on Auto-detect, or pick the language if you know it.
  • Mode: Fast, Balanced or Accurate. Fast is the quickest, Accurate is the most accurate, and Balanced sits in between.
  • Detect speakers: labels every line with a speaker. Speakers are numbered, not named. If you know how many people are talking, set the number.
  • Transcribe to English: writes English straight from the audio, whatever language is spoken.
  • Restore audio: cleans up a noisy recording before it is transcribed.

The last three are under Speaker detection & more settings in the transcribe dialog. Every plan has all of them.

Working with your transcript

  • Play from any line. Every line has a timestamp; click it to play the audio from that moment.
  • Fix mistakes. Click a line, correct it, and press Enter. It saves right away.
  • QC mode for subtitles. Each line becomes a subtitle cue with its own start and end time. Under Thresholds, turn on Reading-speed & line checks to flag cues that go by faster than 17 characters per second (9 for Chinese, Japanese and Korean) and lines that are too long. You can edit times, split, merge and insert cues. It flags problems but never changes your text on its own. Why reading speed matters: subtitle reading speed (CPS).
  • History keeps earlier versions, so you can always roll back.

Exporting

Export as PDF, DOCX, TXT, SRT, VTT, CSV, TSV or JSON — one format, or several at once from Advanced export. The export uses whichever version is on screen: the original or one of your translations.

Translation

Translation is free on every plan and covers 134+ languages, because the translation itself is done by Google Translate.

  1. In the transcript, click Translate. Your transcript opens in Google Translate; pick the target language there.
  2. Click Save to ScribeToAny subtitles and confirm. The translation is saved as its own language track, with the original timings. Your original transcript is never changed.
  3. Switch between Original and each language above the transcript, and export each one.

Proofread the original before you translate: a translation you have already saved doesn't update when you edit the original. The full walkthrough is in how to translate subtitles, step by step.

Sharing and your files

  • Share a read-only link to a transcript with anyone — no account needed to view it.
  • Manage your files — see, download, and delete everything from your files.

Use ScribeToAny in ChatGPT and Claude

Connect your account to ChatGPT, Claude or another AI app that supports MCP, then ask for your transcripts in the chat.

Connect

  • ChatGPT: find ScribeToAny in ChatGPT's app directory and select Connect.
  • Claude: go to Settings → Connectors and add ScribeToAny from the directory, or add a custom connector with the URL https://scribetoany.com/api/mcp.
  • Other apps (Cursor and others): add a remote MCP server with the URL https://scribetoany.com/api/mcp.

Sign in to ScribeToAny when asked and select Allow. To disconnect, remove ScribeToAny in the AI app's settings.

Setup for Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code, plus sign-in details and limits, is on the Developers page.

What you can ask

  • "List my recent transcripts" or "Find my transcript about the budget meeting".
  • "Get the transcript of [title] with timestamps", or as SRT or VTT subtitles.
  • "Transcribe this: [link]". Links from X, Twitch, Loom, Google Drive and Dropbox work, as do direct links to audio or video files.
  • In ChatGPT, attach an audio or video file and ask to transcribe it. In other apps, ask for an upload link: it opens ScribeToAny in your browser, you upload the file there, then go back to the chat.
  • "How many transcription minutes do I have left?"

What the app can do

The AI app can read your transcripts, their titles and file names, and your usage, and it can start new transcriptions. It can't edit or delete anything, and it never sees your payment details. Transcriptions started from an AI app count toward your plan like any other. A file attached in ChatGPT can't be retried; if it fails, attach it again.

Free browser tools (no upload, no account)

The free tools are separate from transcription and completely free:

  • Subtitle converters — SRT ↔ VTT ↔ TXT/CSV/JSON, and export to DOCX/PDF.
  • A subtitle editor — fix cues and timings, then re-export.
  • Media utilities — extract audio from video, convert between audio formats, MP4 → WebM, video → GIF, HEIC → JPG.

These run entirely in your browser — your file is never uploaded to a server.

Tips for the best accuracy

  • Clear audio matters more than anything — less background noise and less crosstalk gives a better transcript. For a noisy recording, turn on Restore audio.
  • Set the correct language (or trust Auto-detect for a single clearly-spoken language).
  • Use Accurate mode when the wording matters more than speed.
  • For music or heavy accents, expect to do a little editing afterwards — clicking a line to fix it makes that quick.

Billing, plans, and cancellation

  • Every plan has the same features; paid plans raise the limits. Compare them on the Pricing page.
  • Manage your subscription — upgrade, downgrade, update payment details, or cancel anytime — from your billing settings.
  • Payments are handled securely by Stripe; ScribeToAny never sees your full card number. See Security for details.

Privacy and security

Your recordings are private. Uploaded files are automatically deleted after transcription, your data is encrypted, and we never train AI on your files. The optional AI assistant sends a transcript's text to a third-party AI provider, and only when you use it. Read the full details on our Security page.
