French to English

Two ways to go from French audio to English text, and which you want depends on whether you need the French as well. Choosing English as a translation target instead gives you both documents — the French transcript and the English translation, sharing identical cue timings — which is what you want for bilingual subtitles or when someone has to check the original.

Does it handle French from France, Canada and Africa?

Yes — the model is trained on a broad range of spoken French, so Metropolitan, Québécois and West African French are all recognised. Fast or heavily accented speech is where a quick proofread in the editor helps most.

Do I get the French transcript too, or only English?

Your choice. "Transcribe to English" gives you English only, in one pass, on any plan. Choosing English as a translation target keeps the French transcript and adds the English translation alongside it, with identical timings — that second mode is on the Max plan.

Can I make bilingual subtitles?

Yes. Both the French and English come out timestamped, so export SRT or VTT for each and they line up on the same video. That is the usual reason to keep both rather than transcribing straight to English.
